Left undiagnosed, the debilitating effects of leprosy most commonly observed among persons is a facial or limb disability or deformity. This condition leaves patients exposed to stigma, discrimination and loss of livelihood leading to a vicious cycle of poverty, neglect and ostracization. We tackle the challenge posed by leprosy and related disability in multiple ways namely – reconstructive surgery for persons suffering from leprosy related deformity, facilitating access to medication and treatment (including physiotherapy) and upskilling local healthcare initiatives. We identify persons suffering from leprosy related deformities through referrals from NGO partners, local government hospitals, Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) and ASHA workers. Reconstructive surgery (RCS), is the most critical step in giving a person affected by leprosy, their life back. Your donation will pay for access to a skilled surgeon, operation theatre, post-operative care, counselling and physiotherapy for the patient and their family. Number of cases - 20 Pre and Post surgery checkup (diganostics, tests etc) – Rs. 1,00,000 Travel/ food /lodging for two Surgeons for two camps (10 cases each camp) – Rs. 50,000 Loss of pay compensation to patients (Rs. 500 per day) – Rs. 30,000 Total Cost – Rs. 1,80,000 for 20 patients Cost per surgery – Rs. 9,000
